This is way I choose to write my Blackpen blog. The principles of organic blogging are truly beautiful to consider when you are starting to blog or have some experience in blogging. I will be talking about many garden terms as a metaphor for blogging. Please stay with me on this topic as it will help to explaining blogging in a clear and luscious way. I have done it this way because gardening is one of my strengths.
Website / Plot
When you start a garden the first thing to do is plan and design where you want things to go. It is the same with your blog. I had no idea on how to set up a website, so I engaged James from Choc Chip Digital. He helped me get by blog to the layout I wanted. My blog site if you haven’t noticed has a black titleblock and only black text in the blogs. This was done on purpose as I wanted to reference my Blackpen name. Also the text looks designer and this may appeal to a targeted audience. I think it is important to set up your blog on your website as you own the content. Therefore, I really love my plot.
Niche / Soil
The soil is the starting point for your blog. It is everything you need to build your blog from and without it nothing with grow. The soil is your expertise, experience, interests, point of difference or your niche. Once you identity your soil profile then you can start to think about blogging. If your soil is wrong then you will lose interest. It is all about soil preparation.
Tribe / Insects
With your blog you need a whole bunch of good inserts that will help to improve the soil and make it ready for planting. The people that know you well and can help to improve your niche are very valuable. They may potential guide you into better topics or strength. Listen to your tribe.
Emerging Ideas / Seedings
Each and every idea for my blog are my seedlings. I take the time and select the best stock. I run the ideas past my friend and family to get their opinions. Sometimes, the ideas are great and turn into healthy plants. I love when this happens. Also listen to your gut. If it doesn’t feel right don’t write about it.
Improved Ideas / Compost
I could have used bad ideas, but didn’t like the sound of it. So improved ideas are ones that don’t make the plot. You might have invested some time into them and they didn’t work, and that is ok. Simple learn from these ideas and again trust your gut. Compost these seedlings back into the soil. These will better enrich your other ideas as you learn from them. Nothing is lost in organic blogging.
Comments / Nutrient
When you finally get comments to your blog. You just go through a massive growth spurt and it make you feel good. Your ideas are now become healthy and strong. Also it helps to show you’re on the right track and market likes your product. Review you blog often for comments. Once you get them respond with gratitude. If you’re lucky enough to get your market to come back many times or sign up then you’re performing well.
Advertising / Chemicals
One of the major principle with organic garden is not use chemicals in your garden. It is not natural. With blogs when you allow pop up advertising to occur on your blog your readers lose interest. The advertising provides short term profit, but ultimately move toward long term lose as reader become disengaged. Finally, spammers please stop. You are wasting time yours and mine.
Profit / Fruit
When your idea or stories are simple the pick of the crop, your will soon be harvesting the profit for your blog. Fruit with blogs comes in many sizes. If you’re happy when you get comments, then well done. If you’re lucky enough to get paid from your writing blog, then well done also. If your happy to write to record your life memories so you remember then that is also a beautiful fruit. If you’re interested to know what my fruit is, then read Why I blog.
Affiliation / Companion Planting
With blogging you need to have the right plants around you to attract the beneficial insects to improve your garden. Find other blogs or business websites that have similar values or complimentary topics to yours. Leave comments on their site. Maybe, highlight how you find their work interesting. Then insert a call to action to get them to check out your blog for they might find it beneficial. For me I will affiliate with construction, development and political landscapes. I want my ideas built and actioned.
Sharing Ideas / Grafting
I like to give my friends and family produce from my garden. So when your blog idea are starting to get overrun with produce it might be time to branch out. Sometimes you can’t do it all. So you need to graft an idea and give it to the right person. Once they value the idea and can see where they can take it, your idea will be cloned. You then have two people telling the same story. Eventually, your idea can turn into an orchard and will be overflowing with support. In my case I would benefit from professionals that make decisions and are happy to share stories for free. Also I would benefit from people that are engaged in the world and what to make a difference. If you’re interested in blogging for Blackpen please leave a comment. I would love to see what you come up with.
Visual / Flowers
With organic blogging a big flower is your attractant and to keep people interested. When you place a photo, image, graphic or a quick sketch it appeals to many people. My suggestion is to take the time to produce this flower by yourself. I think your readers are more interested in you talent and skill. On my blog I don’t put any flowers from outside sources. Firstly, I don’t want to be sued. Secondly, that is way too easy and any random can do it. If you’re reading this, I imagine you want to be special, so take the time and stand out. When I don’t have an image because I super excited to get the blog out. Then I just reuse my face sketch image. Once I get some time I will update the image.
Distribution / Bees
I need bees for my blog. Bees in blogs are just as important as bees in the real world. The bees take ideas from one source to another. They pollinate and provide you with gorgeous honey. The people that promote your blog and direct people to your blog are pure sweat honey gold. Look after the bees and make sure are constantly inviting them to your blog with stimulating material.
Measuring / Watering
Watering your blog is like going out to your garden and tracking how well your garden is growing. Bitly, is great to see how many people click on your link. This simple tracker is a easy way to maintain enthusiasm for your blog. Also it is quick to see if your blog is reaching the right markets. Just like gardening, water your blog regular to maintain optimum plant growth.
Google Words Search / Scent
Before I started to write Blackpen blog, I did what everyone does. I went to Google and typed how to write blogs, what to include in blogs, topics for blogging. I went to many blog sites and found many interesting and useful. However, you may not have realised because I typed the search words into my website topic now. They will eventually come up in google searches. So if you are reading this blog and have directly searched these topics from the word search above. Then please leave a comment that simple says ‘Scent’. By doing this you highlight to other readers that this is a powerful scent to your blog. Also you may not have realised that this entire topic is forest of scents. Have another read through the blog and see what you can find.
Inspire / Self-seeding
With my blog I want my ideas to spread and to be self-seeding, this is a really strong component of permaculture. It takes effort to sow seedling ideas and raise plant. Yet if the seedling come up each year without you doing anything, they will be stronger and more resistant. You will be surprised by their performance. Your blog will be in balance to nature. If you inspire someone and teach them then that is something great. Yet when they take that idea and grow it for themselves, then you indirectly with grow with them.
